Balaji Ponna

Balaji has completed his Masters from Santiniketan in 2003 and his Bachelors in from Andhra University, Visakhapatnam, A.P. About his work Balaji says “it’s a matter of playing with certain notions that the society and people carry. My present series of work is about that, but executed in a humorous mode. The ’smoke’ with the visuals emerging out has been symbolically woven, which is meant to signify the blindness of the beliefs that the people carry with their notions. I tried to build compatibility between my language and the ideas that circulated around it. Here title becomes one of the primary constitutional and conceptual elements of any work. The visual and its verbal supplement are simultaneously conceived. This makes the process more interesting and challenging.

Balaji Ponna has participated in various group shows in Baroda, Delhi and Mumbai. In 2008: ‘The July Show’ at The Guild, Mumbai; 2007: ‘Chronicles of Unspoken’, Travancore Art Gallery, New Delhi and ‘Cross Roads’ at Anant Art Gallery, New Delhi; 2006: ‘Stepping in – Stepping out’, Art Konsult & Threshold Art Gallery at India Habitat Centre, New Delhi; ‘Modus Operandi’ at ABS Lanxess Gallery, Baroda and Sense n Blend, Kaleidoscope Art Gallery, Baroda; 2005: Distilled Embers exhibition of prints Organized by Alternatives & Threshold Art Gallery, New Delhi.
